About me
Whether I'm using pen and wash, watercolour, photograhy or videography, I always try to capture a sense of light and texture in my work.
I've lived in the Holme Valley, West Yorkshire all my life, but enjoy travelling and visiting Europe or the Mediterranean as often as possible. This has influenced my paintings and sketches a lot, particularly my pen and wash work. I suppose I would describe my work as impressionism, as I try to capture the 'feeling' of a street scence rather than a 'realistic' image. Unless of course it's my photography, in which case I'm always looking for the effects of light and shade.
Working very fast and loose, I find this approach both relaxing and rewarding. While travelling I paint 'en plein air', usually sat at a cafe having a streetside beer! My technique is driven by a conscious decision to not worry about the result too much and just 'let it happen'.
